Fall 2010name

Hello. My name is Casey.

A little about me:

I'm currently attending Cal State Fullerton as a 4th year majoring in graphic design. I was born on January 24th in Anaheim, CA and have been living in Fullerton, CA for about all my life. I have one older sister, who is an accounting major, and is now living in Sacramento. A few important facts that most people know about me would be that I'm a huge hello kitty fan, I am a shopaholic, and I have a shoe fetish.

I've always been very interested in art and fashion at a very young age. I've always been drawing during my childhood, and eventually during my teenage years, my parents enrolled me in an art program to further my drawing skills. As to fashion, I loved playing dress up and Barbie doll fashion shows since I was young, however my true passion for the fashion industry started in high school.

If I had to describe my approach to design, I would say that I favor clean, simple, modernistic designs. A lot of my work is not heavily embellished; a majority of them have very simple elements that make up the design. I love sans serif fonts and have a huge soft spot for certain clean fonts like Avant Garde and District Thin. I would say that my approach is very minimalistic; however I am open to other styles, especially the distressed or vintage designs.

"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening." -Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel is one my greatest role models; she's an inspirational leader of the fashion industry and I look up to how independent and strong willed she was. Among other great influences and most important figures in my life would be my sister, my parents, my friends, my boyfriend and my little baby dog, Coco.

Some of my favorite designers would include: John Galliano, Michael Kors for handbags, Jimmy Choo and Charles David for footwear, and Kate Spade for accessories.

My future goals include graduating with my BFA in graphic design (hopefully by July 2010), land a job with Conde Nast as a layout designer, move to either New York or Los Angeles, and hopefully start my own fashion line once I establish a stable career. Other plans include gaining a certificate in interior design, traveling to Paris, gain experience working as a stylist, attending Fashion week, buying my first pair of Louboutins, and hopefully become magazine editor someday. I have so many plans for the future and I'm looking forward to every minute of it.

My 10 Favorites Things :

Good Sites:

Designworklife

I recently discovered this blog and I love referring to it for inspiration. The site features some really girly, cutesy artwork and other times they have clean modern designs for collateral publications. I always look to this site for inspiration whenever I can't think of anything creative. They feature many new artists with new creative perspectives on how collateral publications should be designed. Being a graphic design major, I really pay attention to the fonts that the site refers to sometimes and I usually go head over heels for the fonts that are used. If you're into clean, modern fonts, make sure you check this website out! This site is definitely worthwhile.

Cheapchicas

One of my favorite websites of all time! I check this site everyday for all the best fashion updates. Cheapchicas provides cheaper alternatives for runway looks all for under $100; everything featured in the website is tailored to women with a budget. The site not only gives fashion advice, but also beauty advice. I usually look to this site for all the new products coming out and the best ways to make the most out of my wardrobe. The site also features other fashion blogs online; I usually end up adding these sites to my favorites as well. The best thing about this site is that because it is tailored to women with a budget, you get all the updates on the best sales going on. Although it may not have the best layout, this site is amazing!

Anthropologie

Anthropologie is one of my most favorite stores. They have the cutest accessories and outfits. The store is a branch founded by Urban Outfitters, Inc. and has a vintage, bohemian feel to the entire store. They sell women's apparel and accessories, furniture and home furnishings. It can be a little pricey at times, but their sales make everything worth it. Overall, the styles of the store and web page are very simplistic and clean; definitely one of my favorite websites.

John Galliano

John Galliano's website is definitely worth checking out. Among being one of my favorite fashion designers, John Galliano, head designer for Dior, has a very interesting and intriguing website. It has a very different feel when compared to many of the websites I’ve seen. It’s all flash based and the videos and sound in the background definitely reflects his style of pulling from the extremes.

Ugly Sites:

Go Daddy

This site is one of the most unattractive sites I've seen in a long time. The green and black color scheme throws me off and I'm not a fan of the GoDaddy logo at all. Since it is a website that is trying to sell things, the huge ad in the page front is justifiable, but overall I'm not crazy about the website.

Craiglist

This is by far one of the most cluttered sites I have ever seen. The first time I used Craiglist I was completely overwhelmed and didn’t know where to start. The crowded blue text is way too much for a first time user; it makes it very hard to navigate. Although I don’t love the webpage, Craiglist is still a great site to find items at a great price.

Christian Louboutin

Christian Louboutin is one of the most innovative shoe designers in the fashion industry. I love his shoes; however the website does nothing for his designs. I think the website is too interactive and makes it seem cheaper than his designs are worth. The flash based website makes everything seem tacky. I think the worst part of the website is the main page where you see the designer hovering over the shoe with glowing green eyes. I absolutely love Louboutin shoes, but they site was extremely disappointing.

Lush

This is one of my favorite cosmetics brand, but the site is extremely bland. The website does not promote the cosmetic very well in my opinion. Lush is a great organic, vegan cosmetic brand that only uses the freshest organic fruit and vegetables to create their products. I just wish their website was more marketable.
